State Sen. Sylvia Santana will sit down with Dearborn residents at Shatila Bakery on Monday, Oct. 19, for an open forum on neighborhood concerns and state issues.
Santana is hosting the event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 14300 W. Warren Ave., according to the League of Women Voters of Dearborn-Dearborn Heights’ event listing and attached flyer. The LWV listing encourages attendees to bring their issues, concerns, ideas and questions. Santana, who represents District 2 in the Michigan Senate, promoted the event in a Sept. 23 newsletter.
The forum coincides with a voter registration deadline. Monday, Oct. 19, is the last day eligible Michigan residents can register to vote online or by mail for the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election, according to Votebeat and the Michigan Department of State. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Oct. 19. Eligible residents can still register in person at their local clerk’s office, with proof of residency, through 8 p.m. on Election Day. The Nov. 3 ballot includes races for governor, secretary of state, attorney general, U.S. senator and all state House and Senate seats, CBS News Detroit reported, consistent with the state’s official candidate listing.
Representatives from several agencies plan to attend, according to the LWV listing. The guest list includes the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency and the Wayne County Treasurer's office.
No registration link appeared on the LWV listing as of Tuesday, Oct. 13. Residents with questions can contact the League of Women Voters of Dearborn-Dearborn Heights at 313-278-6476 or [email protected].
