Two Dearborn Pioneers qualified for the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) girls golf state championship with a 1-2 finish at regionals, according to Dearborn High School’s athletics department.
Senior Calyssa Post shot an 80 to win the regional. The first-place finish sends her to the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year, meaning Post has reached states every season of her high school career.
Freshman Nada Lazar, who attends the Henry Ford Early College program, shot an 83 to take second. The score put her just three strokes behind Post and earned her a spot in her first state championship field.
The Dearborn High School athletics department announced both results on social media Wednesday, Oct. 7, calling it "Two Pioneers are going to States."
Post's four-year streak is the headline. She won the regional as a senior, capping a career in which she has qualified for the state tournament every fall since her freshman year. She will compete at states for the final time this month.
Lazar, meanwhile, made her mark fast. A freshman competing through the early college program, she broke into the top two of the regional field. Her 83 was strong enough to claim the runner-up spot and a state-qualifying berth.
The Division 1 state finals are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek, according to MHSAA’s official tournament schedule. The two-day tournament will close the fall golf season for Division 1 qualifiers.
Dearborn High competes in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA).
Post and Lazar are scheduled to compete at Bedford Valley on Oct. 16 for the opening round of the state finals.
