Drew Sheridan already has a state championship, and the Dearborn Divine Child junior quarterback enters the playoffs after being featured in State Champs Michigan’s Mr. Football coverage.

Divine Child beat Jackson Lumen Christi 28-21 at Ford Field on Saturday, Oct. 24, finishing the regular season 8-1, according to MLive.

The Falcons will host Lansing Sexton (6-3) in a Division 4 district semifinal, according to the MHSAA’s Oct. 25 pairings announcement. The opening round is scheduled for Oct. 30-31.

Sheridan helped Divine Child win its first state title since 1985 last season. As a sophomore, he completed 19 of 25 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns in the Falcons’ 23-22 victory over Hudsonville Unity Christian in the Division 4 final on Nov. 28, 2025, according to the MHSAA’s championship recap.

He played with his non-throwing shoulder in a brace after an injury in the regional final against Harper Woods.

“My mindset, honestly, the past two weeks was do whatever it takes to win,” Sheridan told the MHSAA after the championship game.

Divine Child won its first seven games this season before losing to Warren De La Salle Collegiate 38-24 on Oct. 17, according to MaxPreps. The Falcons then beat Lumen Christi in a matchup of defending state champions. Lumen Christi won Division 6 in 2025.

Sheridan also drew college recruiting attention during the spring. Maize n Brew reported in May that the class of 2028 quarterback was a three-star prospect ranked by Rivals among Michigan’s top 10 recruits in his class.

The report identified scholarship offers from Penn State, Pitt, Memphis, Southern Miss and several Mid-American Conference programs. It also reported that Michigan quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. attended a Divine Child showcase to watch Sheridan throw.

Chris Laney is in his fifth season as Divine Child’s head coach. The Detroit Lions named him their Week 5 High School Football Coach of the Week after the Falcons beat Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard to improve to 5-0. The Lions reported his coaching record at Divine Child as 40-13 as of Sept. 29.
